RUKUNGIRI-The Commissioner of Accounts in the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs Denis Barigye Mishambi has called on parents and old students to embark on developing their schools if they want them to provide quality education.
This was part of his remarks on Sunday while officiating at the fundraising function organized at Nyamifura Primary School in Kabwooma Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri to raise funds to renovate the school structures.
Denis noted that parents and old students abandon their local schools and seek quality education far away which has spoiled the culture and development of areas.
The Rukungiri District Secretary for Education, Commerce, and Tourism Musimenta Keredonia Claire commended the zeal exhibited by Nyamifura Primary School administrators towards the develpment of their school and appealed to other schools to learn from them noting that whereas government is trying to set the standard, it can’t do it alone.
The School Headteacher Lovence Biriho expressed gratitude towards the success of the event noting that they expected 40 million to renovate the dilapidated structures but they collected a big amount that will even enable them to construct staff quarters and toilets.
A total of over 116 million was raised in cash and pledges.
